Pilates is a gentle form of exercice to strengthen the whole body. This method was developed by Joseph Hubertus Pilates, from Germany, in the early 20 th century. He had practiced many sports including yoga.

It aims at building up core muscles (abdomen, lower and upper back...) including pelvic floor (perineum) often called the « powerhouse » , that is the key to a person’s stability.

Mat -based pilates is performed on the floor, using small equipment (swiss ball, roller…) It’s a great method which uses breathing techniques and body awareness,. It enhances physical and mental health.

Pilates exercices can be adapted according to the practitioner’s level, goals and limitations. The teacher should carefully guide and observe to correct and modify postures if necessary.

Its original principles are concentration, control, center, flow, precision and breathing.
