Yoga is a thousand-year-old Indian philosophy. The world yoga means « to join ». It brings body and mind together, to achieve physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
It is a renowned antidote to stress because it allows us to live in the moment. By encouraging commitment and thoroughness, is a good way to improve concentration.
There are many different yoga varieties (Hatha, Iyengar, Vinyasa…..). A yoga session relies on asanas ( yoga postures) and pranayama (yoga breathing).
The practice is based on the alignment of body parts including lying, sitting, standing and inverted postures with equipment (belts, blocks, bolsters…).
It is aimed at using the musculoskeletal, respiratory and organ systems of the whole body.
Health benefits of yoga :
It is non competitive and without objectives, therefore it can be practiced by anybody, regardless of age and physical abilities.
In 2014, UNO declared 21st June « international Yoga day ».
